Mahurangi Coast Kitchen | A Coastal Kitchen Reimagined
When we were invited to work with these returning clients again, this time on the renovation of their new coastal home overlooking the Mahurangi Harbour, the goal was to create a kitchen that better reflected how they lived.
The existing layout placed the kitchen within the home’s sun-filled dining area, which was actually the couple’s favourite place to sit and enjoy the view. Rather than simply updating the kitchen, we saw an opportunity to rethink the layout entirely.
By relocating the kitchen into the former lounge, we created a more central, connected space for cooking and entertaining, while transforming the original kitchen and dining area into a dedicated sitting room. The existing laundry was also reconfigured to create a separate butler’s pantry and laundry, improving storage, preparation space and everyday functionality.
At the heart of the new kitchen, a Quartzite Sea Pearl island is paired with custom walnut-stained oak cabinetry, bringing natural warmth and texture to the space. Melteca Green Slate overhead cabinetry introduces a soft, earthy contrast, while a 4mm stainless steel work surface and brushed copper tapware add a refined industrial edge.
The butler’s pantry and laundry feature Melteca Raw Cotton cabinetry and Trendstone New Lily White benchtops, creating practical, hardworking spaces that sit comfortably within the overall design.
By rethinking the existing footprint rather than expanding it, this coastal kitchen renovation has transformed not just the kitchen, but the way the home functions — creating a more intuitive, welcoming space that connects beautifully with its surroundings.
